Vision and Mission
Sunday Sermon is rooted in the firm belief that preaching matters. This importance transcends all categories of aesthetics, politics, or rhetoric. We take this from Scripture itself:
“For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.” I Cor. 1:21
Preaching matters because it is a means for God to save people.
While God can use a terrible sermon to do his work, and every preacher will admit to having preached a few of those, we believe that this holy purpose for preaching demands our best. We strive for the best sermon because we are preaching Jesus’ kingdom. We are His ambassadors to these people whom He has gathered to this place today.
To that end, Sunday Sermon, strives to equip preachers to bring the good news of Christ’s kingdom to the people whom they will confront in the churches of Christendom.
We do not provide “canned” sermons. There is a wonderful mystery in the interplay of the preacher, the congregation, and the text. We will serve as a community in which the preacher can wrestle with a text, learn from others, and be equipped with considered ideas and directions for a sermon to be written and delivered. God will speak through that preacher. Anyone else who tries to get in the way of that will only muddy the waters.
